The original FDE storage calculator was developed by Massey University and Horizons Regional Council with data kindly supplied by NIWA and Plant & Food Research. Its purpose was to help farmers identify how much storage they needed on farm to meet their consent conditions.
A decade later the software has been upgraded and web based. A few changes have been made to make the software easier to use and to give the user more options to better reflect on farm activity. For more information on the model click here.
As with all models, the quality of the output reflects the quality of the input data. Its imperative that good quality input data is collected from farm to best reflect the farm’s storage requirements. Failure to do this could result in the farm building insufficient storage.
